Monday 30th July

Good Morning

We have racing today at Ayr and Windsor (it is Monday after all) both will race on ground possibly a bit softer than advertised. There is AW at Lingfield (extra meeting arranged in midst of heatwave to allow Trainers to run horses who desperately needed a race and not on green tarmac) and a schedule Card at Wolverhampton. Both AW meetings are heavily subscribed in terms of runners and with many I think we have to take at face value that they will be running to retain/regain sharpness. The is a National Hunt Card at Newton Abbott; and having called a mate to go and rescue my Patio furniture down there after 60 mile an hour winds and lashing rain, I suspect it could also be softer than advertised. Last; but very much not least, the first of 7 Days at The Galway Festival.

From tomorrow we have 5 days of top Quality Flat Racing at Goodwood, not the pure toffery of Royal Ascot, far more genteel and better for it, but still quintessentially English and on a Course where Course form and trends can be hugely significant. The Galway Festival meanwhile is just wonderfully Irish, Flat and National Hunt, some excellent quality, padded with some dubious quantity, but above all; horse racing folk (which accounts for about 95% of the population it seems) doing what they love best, watching some racing, having a few drinks and some quality craic. The best week of The Flat summer in my humble opinion.

We have a tip from PLACESPOTTER at Galway today and also a couple of well handicapped Mentions running at Ayr
