Sunday 29th July

Good Morning

It was welcome to have a winner yesterday with FLYING PURSUIT and David also bagged a place and an enhanced place in the big Handicap Race at Ascot, where the Handicapper, must surely be congratulated for a fantastic close finish. Great to see some proper Soft ground at York and Ground with "no sting" at Ascot.

We have had some decent rain in most places prior to today, and a real dollop all over it seems today, it has come just in time for Glorious Goodwood and Galway, and despite the fact it dries up after today, there seems to be little in the way of intense heat before Friday, so hopefully we can have a Good Ground Goodwood and Galway and no complaints about Courses being more like tarmac.

There is AW at Wolverhampton today, we will focus though on PONTEFRACT where heavy rain is expected and I have factored in Good Going softening probably to Good to Soft and at Uttoxeter; where based on rain yesterday and now, from where I am 20+ miles away, I'd say Good to Soft could become Soft. We will have 4 Mentions but stick with the 1/4 point for today at least, not so much a lack of confidence in the analysis; just some professional prudence as to exactly how much of the rain gets in to the ground, as opposed to sitting on the top. As always, I would make the point that staking is in the remit of the individual, and suggested stakes are just that e,g suggestions.

A bit of genuine inside information too on one at Uttoxeter that I got at 9am this morning.

So, we have Mentions at 1/4 point each way on 4 horses in 3 races at Pontefract and a couple of Tricast and Forecast suggestions and an assessment of a race at Uttoxeter.
