There is racing today on the Turf at Hamilton; Leicester; Newmarket and Nottingham, Irish action at Tipperary and an excellent AW Fixture at Newcastle. Whilst my own opinion of both AW Racing and the vandalism and destruction of 300+ years of tradition at Newcastle are well documented, on another scorching day on baking turf, it is I think both logical and pragmatic to look to a surface we can rely on (Tapeta) and a part of the world, where there may not be quite such excessive heat, which does have an effect on some horses more than others.
Tips today are from The Advisor; The Professor and Valueman, all with a tip each at Newcastle and we have a Mention too at Nottingham.
We had a nice winner yesterday with WAARIF who franked the form of the Beverley race I referred to, advised at 12/1 it won at 6/1 and my only frustration in hindsight was "why wasn't it a tip and not a mention" as the 7lbs it got from one and 5lbs it got from another in that aforementioned race was almost exactly linked to how they finished yesterday?. I pondered the question long and hard and my apologies but there is no logical reason, so whilst welcoming the win, it really should have been 1 point each way and not 1/2 point each way, which I can only apologise for. TheGlasgowwarrior ran in to a wall of horses, spent 300 yards trying not to clip heels behind one on the rail and lost all chance, but he is definitely one to track and follow, possibly eased slighter in Grade and I'm sure Mr Goldie will have a plot in mind, somewhere down the line!
