Tuesday 14th August

We could not find a winner yesterday but Chebsey Beau at 14/1 was a runner up and Stone The Crows at 9/2 placed in the 2.55 at Ripon, a decent enough e/w return but I was more than a shade frustrated that we did not include the winner (Stormin Tom) in the T/Cast perm, a case of being swayed by the perceived value of the horse, who we had tipped to win the same race last year. At Ayr, Speed Company was not far away, but increasingly looks like one that flatters to deceive "in running" and finds precious little, when push come to shove!

There are 4 moderate quality meetings today at Chelmsford; Ffos Llas; Nottingham and Thirsk. Very little in terms of racing above Class 5 with a decent field, but with far better Going and some decent field sizes in some of the longer distance races, we will play a few angles there; looking again for fresh; well handicapped horses, proven at the trip and with some form with cut in the ground. There will be a bit of a "time lag" as Trainers get their softer Going horses tuned and prepped for action now; but still some decent value to be had I feel in the interim.

The overall quality has led us down the "mention route" today, but all selections look likely to welcome the change in conditions and are certainly well handicapped enough to be very much involved at the business end of proceedings.

Mentions then in the 3.45 at Ffos Llas and the 6.35 at Nottingham
