Cheltenham 12.40

The Amateur Riders race over an extended 3 miles has been kind to SP2A over the years and that goes back to Swing Bill at 14/1 in the very early days of SP2A. The ability of the Jockey is vital here and the likes of Codd, O'Connor and Harding dominate, and Mr Waley-Cohen is no slouch either !!. I narrowed down to 5, of which SKY PIRATE and THE YOUNG MASTER will be big dangers, Sky Pirate is clearly progressive, the Yard seems revitalised but with a lack of Course and big race experience, I just felt the price too short. He may "bolt up" so if you want a Tricast with the final pair, worthwhile including him. The Young Master returned to a glimmer of his once excellent form last time and fitness will be a big asset here, but he looked primed that day, and may be vulnerable to fresher legs, if he does win, some training performance to get him back this far!. The other danger at a decent price may be WALK IN THE MILL he is one I will follow closely but prefer him right handed and he may just need this run if he comes out of this well, would not be surprised to see him at Ascot next week or on 22nd December!

So my selections are a "win bet" on FOR GOOD MEASURE, has had a run, Derek O'Connor rides and on pure form, has to have an outstanding chance here and 7/2 in pretty decent value in that regard. LOVELY JOB has had a run, unexposed in many ways and should be reaching peak this season, he has scope off a mark of 138, Course experience and Richard Harding is looking for a hat-trick, having won this race in 2016 and 2017.
