Exeter 4.20

Exeter 4.20 8 Wells Gold - 1/2 point e/w @ 11/1 / 5 Scrumpy Boy - 1/2 point e/w @ 10/1

An intriguing Handicap Hurdle for mostly younger developing types over just shy of 22 furlongs. Hard to rule
out Eddy who won well here last time but the handicapper has been brutal and a couple of longer term prospects caught my eye;
primarily with my P2P hat on for WELLS GOLD and courtesy of initially some inside info from Sue on of our Members and then
a close look at the form of SCRUMPY BOY. Wells Gold has on face value poor UK form figures, but look at its P2P form in
Ireland and its 2 best runs were over 3 miles, weakening only close home in both and in some decent company. This race represents
first real race in UK at that kind of trip, they will have blown the tubes open and cobwebs away with a few runs over patently too short;
and the Fergal O'Brien yard is in great form and he is an incredibly astute Trainer. The update from Sue was that she knows someone
who has a partnership share in SCRUMPY BOY and told me they are quietly confident that this is too an ideal trip. With that info I
went and looked at the form, true enough it ran very well for a long way in a 3 mile race at Uttoxeter a month ago and looks solid
on that evidence. What is striking though is a closer look at the form of horses in that Uttoxeter race as Stonemadforspeed has come
out and won twice sine off marks of 98 and 105 and Western Jo has come out and won off a mark of 102, that is eye-catching to
put it mildly, always worth finding such races early in the season and mapping anything in such races and the mark today for SB
of 92 with a decent 5lbs Claimer; makes my eyes water a bit!
