Wincanton 2.40

WINCANTON 2.40 KK LEXION + WALLACE SPIRIT - 1 point each way each

A trip of 2 miles and just over 5 furlongs, Class 3 Handicap Hurdle on what is described as "Good Going" although at this time of year it will probably be a bit "tacky" so they are likely to finish a bit more tired than you might imagine. I had 6 of interest here and the NT-D pair of Wicked Willy (may need further than this in these conditions) and EarloftheCotswolds (shaped as if needing this trip but form does not look overly exciting) should be dangers but not winners today for me. Magoo could be anything for PFN; especially round here, but clearly has some fragilities. That could certainly apply, together with the word "quirky" for WALLACE SPIRIT a horse with a clear level ability but who seems to want to throw winning chances away by veering sharply. They try a new aid today and I've been told some physiotherapy has flagged up a minor back problem, that may explain earlier indiscretions. The other selection was a choice between Gulshanigans and KK LEXION, the former ran well on return over Course and Distance recently, just a fear it may "bounce" and also not 100% sure ready for Class 3 as yet so KK LEXION an impressive 10 length winner of this race in 2016 gets the nod. It won that day off a mark of 121, went up to a mark of 135 and better class and is back today off 124, with the Trainers more than competent son taking a further 7lbs off. On the form book IF the horse retains 90% of that 2016 ability, then it has to have a great chance here, the key question is "how much ability remains" and I am happy to take that chance here.
