Friday 22nd June

In the 3.40 at Ascot I can't resist a small nibble on ROUSSEL at odds around 33/1 with SkyBet going odds to 5th and most to 4th place. The horse was runner up in The Windsor Castle here last year in a stable 1-2 and that looked and still does a very solid yardstick. The horse returned with a win at 6 furlongs this summer and subsequently placed over 5 furlongs. It should get the run of the race from stall 21 and a nice tow in to a fast paced all out sprint and that proven 6 furlong form should see it staying on better than many, IF they go off a yard too fast, which has happened a few times this week with early pace fallen in to a heap over the shorter sprint distances. The Yard is in fine form and it just stands out as something very over-priced on that Course run in 2017.

In the 5.00 already covered by Michael another one "lurking" is DARK ROSE ANGEL. Go and have a look at a race at Doncaster last Autumn where it was just beaten by Laurens but finished ahead of Billesdon Brook; Nyalati; Sizzling and a host of other good horses. It may simply not have "trained on" and that race may have been a career best it can't emulate, but this is if anything a drop in Class for it and if it ran at 95% of that race, well it would look crack each way value with enhanced place Odds at 25/1 and just the sort that you'd look back at and think "should have spotted that". Worth 1/2 point each way on that basis.
