Doncaster 3.40

THE ADVISOR - Doncaster 3.40 Grimethorpe Chase - Handicap - Class 2 - 3 miles and 2 furlongs - Good to Soft (Soft) - 13 run

I'm not convinced that this is too deep a race and keep coming back to 4 of the 13 runner field.

I'm happy to take on Some Scope at 3/1, a progressive horse but this is a considerable step up in terms of company and handicap mark. Certainly Red is a solid and dependable Chaser but I think half a stone better going right handed. Java Point is in form but in a fair bit deeper than usual and Does He Know would have a shout on 2022 form. Of the remainder Doc Picked Me might not appreciate the soft ground and perhaps the dark horse could be Half Shot on one bit of decent Musselburgh form when beating Inis Orr but he's run disappointedly twice since and Inis Orr would not have been as race fit in the Autumn as he was when winning a big prize in the past few weeks.

I am most keen therefore in UNDERSUPERVISION, winner of this is 2022, runner up last year and still in good form if you ignore the last run on unsuitably heavy Going. CHARLIE UBERALLES also has Course form and my only niggle would be if it got too soft, and ERNE RIVER, another who likes it at Doncaster and who is in good form looks very solid IF either or both of the other pair were to fail.

If we need a reserve the only other one who stood out on past form, but who has to overcome recent form of P-P-P is ASHTOWN LAD and a break has hopefully done him some good and it's interesting they go for some new headgear. I've a feeling he could be winning soon!

Tips (1) Undersupervision / (2) Charlie Uberalles / (3s) Erne River (reserve Ashtown Lad)
