Friday 6th May

An object lesson on how to ride Chester and how not to ride Chester in the big race yesterday. Pride Of America tipped at 6/1 and a winner at half the price was given the perfect ride by Silvestre De Souza from the front. Whilst you can't always get to the front there, the one thing that doesn't work is to expend too much energy from the back, it's a bit like a game of Chess, waiting for the breaks. Unfortunately David Probert, who has been in excellent form to be fair to him, tried to make headway too soon, he did make fantastic progress on the outside on Group One Power, but was left with the tanks empty by the time they turned in. He could be one to follow on a more conventional Track and ridden with a bit more restraint as there is clearly an engine there.

The race at Worcester cut up badly with 2 non runners for us and Oscars Montel was a bit disappointing. Two winners in two days though at Chester so we'll focus on there again today, a glance at Cork and a lot of potential learning at Ascot in terms of going and Draw for tomorrow and a few Trackers at Market Rasen and Downpatrick.
