Monday 15th March

Another decent day yesterday and in one case perhaps unlucky not to have an advised 33/1 winner.

Over at Naas both Fitzhenry and Class Conti placed (to advised enhanced places in the case of CC) and whilst it was a bit frustrating to see Scoir Mear win, a horse we'd tipped on 3 occasions this season, sometimes you just lose patience with one a bit too soon. At Warwick, Goodnight Charlie, the outsider of the field when tipped at 33/1, ran a superb race from a prominent position, just got tagged over the last two by a very upwardly mobile horse (as we'd pointed out in analysis) but one who was perhaps a shade lucky to not fall four out, and that recovery and ability to regain momentum quickly was undoubtedly the defining stage of the race. Nothing lost in defeat though for Goodnight Charlie who amply backed up the analysis.

It would be easy to sit back and watch today after a very promising 7 days or so, save for one day on the AW when options were dire, but there is one race that's thrown up a couple at nice Odds so we'll leave it at your discretion as to how you stake, we'd put them somewhere between Trackers and Shrapnel, as both have merit at nice odds.

On to Cheltenham and as has become the norm for us we'll treat it calmly, ignore the hype and just keep it simple.

The only change is that we'll seek to focus on 3 races per day, allocate around 10 points per day across those 3 races and pin-point anything else that jumps out of the non-handicaps at bigger odds with enhancements offering more place value. That takes a bit longer to write up and sort prices etc, so time wise we'll treat the 4 days as like a Saturday with tips out around 9.00am may be a shade later.

For various reasons, field sizes and betting opportunities may be less, a lot of favourites will win and the Irish may dominate. The success of the past few years has been to "find the right ones at the top end of the market" and to consolidate by the right ones at the bigger end in terms of prices to win a few and place consistently to generate a very nice net profit. Lets hope that we can repeat the successes of the past few years and some very good years before that. Net Profit in 8 of 10 Cheltenham Festivals for us.

Back tomorrow at around 9.00 to 9.15am
