Saturday 8th May

A very wet day across the UK and parts of Ireland.

There are 9 Meetings today, of which 7 are in the UK and that equates to around 60 races and on such days it can take an hour just to decide what races to attack. There is almost certainly going to be a huge amount of non runners, so best I think we focus on the big Betting heat - The Victoria Cup at Ascot, where David has delivered his usual in-depth analysis and also we'll look at the opener at Haydock, a long distance Handicap Hurdle on the mixed Flat and NH Card, a long tradition there and sadly something that has never really caught on.

The sheer quantity of races again in my opinion calls in to question the competence of the BHA and the Fixture planners, quality over quantity is the single biggest reason in my opinion why Irish racing currently dominates, so many reasons why quality and big fields help the Irish horses and until the powers that be start to look after the Sport as opposed to pander to the billionaires running the Global Bookmakers, we'll see the continual decline of the Sport sadly in the UK. Put it like this do you think Ms Coates gives a fig about Horse Racing whilst counting her huge annual salary and bonuses??..

We did as well as can be expected without finding the winner of The Chester Cup and The Grand Visr runner up at 16/1 and Coeur De Lion 4th at 10/1 ran good races, lost nothing in defeat and produced some each way net profit. Sadly in the Consolation Race, a degree of carnage at the start saw both selections badly hampered, Byron Boy ran a cracker considering the 40/1 price but early exertions to regain lost ground meant it was just run out of a place in the closing stages and what would have been a cracking each way price and the way Cleonte who was hampered at the start and again at the 2 furlong pole ran on suggests it is a MUST for your Trackers and next few runs. We won't bleat about the bad luck, in the last few days we've had a winner "on the nod" some days you are in luck, some days not, it will always level out over a period.
