Sunday 9th January

A nice 25/1 winner for our Northern Expert with Knocknamona and a battling 22/1 place for Robin with his tip (Sir Ivan) ensured a profitable day.

It did though again raise comments and some complaints about advised staking. I'm not sure that we'll ever resolve this to everyone's satisfaction, indeed I think it's one of those issues where it is impossible to please everyone at any given point. Suggested staking is what it is, we have Members who stick to it rigidly and others who tell us they place either level stakes or use their own initiative based on their own record keeping of our Tipsters.

The only thing I can add is that whilst no one ever comments that we've done well to mitigate losses when a shrapnel bet loses by staking less, it always seems to be an issue when a shrapnel tip wins at a big price. We'll carry on as we are certainly for the foreseeable future and the guidance is simple, suggested staking is what it is in an attempt to differentiate the confidence levels of tips from Tipsters.

There is AW at Southwell and Jumping at Fairyhouse and Ayr today, very small fields at Ayr and a very tricky looking Chase tops the Card at Fairyhouse but in the preceding race to that Chase, a 3 mile Handicap Hurdle at 1.50, Sean has a couple he likes at decent each way Odds on an otherwise quiet day.
