Doncaster 3.20

NORTHERN - Doncaster 3.20 - Handicap Hurdle - Class 4 - 2 miles 3 and 1/2 furlongs - Good to Soft - 14 run
A competitive 14 runner field.
At the head of the market Come on Gruff for Tom George has won a National Hunt Flat Race and a 2 mile Uttoxeter maiden but you have to take the ability to step up in trip at face value.. Peejaybee has 2 wins and a place over 2 miles and is another upped in trip and Glencassley has had a run, steps back in trip and is a danger but not an obvious winner for me.
One Touch for Ben Pauling is a Course and Distance maiden Hurdle winner but bled and ran flat last time so is perhaps best watched on this occasion but who could run a big race if healthy. Known for Jonjo has had a wind op and was runner up in what looks like a moderate Warwick Maiden and is feared but not ultimately a pick; Pebbley New Moon makes seasonal and handicap debut for Richard Bandey who is making a good start to his Training career, all three of those could frankly be anything and look likely to pick up small races at some point so well worth tracking and following. The same applies to Emphatic Qualm for Twiston-Davies, another to have had a wind operation.
My pair against the field though are GROOVEUR who has had a run, and could be on a nice mark based on some collateral form that's come of of a Ludlow Maiden win. I think this one could have some race fitness and make a bold bid today amongst the less exposed horses.
One with a lot more experience than some is Rebecca Menzies GETAREASON and I think this galloping track and long home straight will be perfect for a horse that has often traveled very well and strongly over hurdles and fences. It's had a run, steps back in to Class 4 and could easily outrun what looks to me like very over-generous Odds.
