Pontefract 2.00

Pontefract 2.00 a race over a few yards above a mile Class 5 race and 12 runners in Division 1 of the race. Looking back at this Card over past few years when on Good Going a striking fact is a high draw bias. I have looked back and don't think it's a pace but more a turf angle as the Course when watered may see the lower drawn horses on slightly worse ground, due to the camber.

I looked at PUMAFLOR drawn in 9 but think that may need the run, it is on a nice mark though so I will track on next 2 runs after this, STRAIGHT ASH is another who caught my eye and a similar may need the run scenario, so I have tracked that one too. When researching these early season races it can often be a major help to note/track those you think have nice marks but who usually need a few runs, can pay rich rewards later when there can be too many meetings and runners, and you are desperately looking for an angle to cherry pick.

The selection though is BUCKLAND BEAU, he is what he is, an inconsistent but capable Class 5 horse. He has run very well fresh though, on a nice handicap mark and drawn high and his Newmarket based Trainer has had 2 recent winners, so the Yard form is not a concern. It's a process of elimination but the more i looked, the more likely I felt we'd get a nice run at decent e/w odds.
