Wetherby 11.45

Wetherby 11.45 Conditional Jockey Handicap Hurdle - Class 4 - 2 miles 4 furlongs - 13 run - Going Good

A competitive heat and a few at the top of the market who could be termed "progressive" and with untapped potential.

Devour ran strongly here last time to win and gets a penalty, the style of the run and win suggests it needed the 2 miles 5 furlong trip though and it's a bit of a surprise to see the drop in trip to be honest. It will need a truly run race and on this Good Going might just find something tapping it for a bit of acceleration. A big danger but one I feel like taking on.

Sometimes Always is a worthy favourite on evidence of last run but may not be great value and is a horse who can come to win races strongly and then not find much under pressure. The phrase "weakening" in the write ups is a bit too repetitive I think to take too short a price at a Course where you want a horse that will run through the line as opposed to hold on to it. I'll take it on for that reason.

Kangaroo Valley adds a touch of class, ex Aiden O'Brien, looks like it can jump a fence but I have enough stamina doubts to leave it alone here today.

The pair I like for a small each way wager against the field are ENFIN PHIL who has definitely needed both runs and should now be ready to run up to its ability and mark fitness wise. No excuses either at the trip, on the ground and a mark of 118 with a 3 lbs claimer means it has no excuses with luck in running for not being very competitive.

The same applies to TRAPPER PEAK, somewhat exposed and in the veteran stages but pops up regularly off this kind of mark in good solid handicaps where you can frankt the form as being very reliable. The runner up run at the end of last season and first run this year off this mark really makes it the yardstick horse around which the handicapper can frame the weights here and not hard to see it running to that mark and then seeing what scope anything else has to improve or not as the case may be.
