Epsom Derby 4.55pm

Placespotter (Ian) has strong views on The Derby-:

"The DERBY at 4.55 is probably more difficult to fathom than usual, the usual glut of O'Brien runners, any of whom could "pop up" most of whom will be employed in the usual disgraceful "mobile chicane" formation to try to hamper the runs of others. They don't always succeed with that tactic and it can be an unedifying sight and demeans a truly fantastic Trainer and operation.

Of the O'Brien runners I think that RUSSIAN EMPEROR is the one to beat and i will have a WIN BET on that. At 11/2 or better if it drifts an each way bet - 1 point e/w becomes some decent value.

Looking at the proven stamina and form angles in the race I want to have a smaller Tracker on a couple who have form in what looks like a decent race at Royal Ascot.

PYLEDRIVER had and still has a fitness advantage and shaped as if this trip will be ideal, I think it can stay on down the hill past short runners and some of those who frankly aren't good enough on form to be in here. A fast finishing 3rd in that race and having it's seasonal debut that day was MOHICAN HEIGHTS who has 4 lengths to find but ran on well and late, it looks a nice horse and though not the absolute pedigree to look like a Derby winner, certainly the necessary stamina lines to make up in to a nice Group horse. You only ever get one chance at this race and fortune favours the brave.

TIP - Russian Emperor - 1 point win / Trackers - Mohican Heights + Pyledriver - 1/2 point each way
