Epsom Friday 31st May

EPSOM 2.35 - A Class 2 race over 1 mile and 1/2 Furlong and the Draw has not been over kind to the most fancied selections but hopefully they can over come that.

I narrowed it down to 4 runners of which FIRMANENT who ran so well for us at a big price when runner up last time will again have good claims although we have put stable mate HORTZADAR in the Tracker as I feel that one has more scope and interesting that the jockey who had choice sticks with that one - a small e/w bet is suggested.

The pair I like most are the Mark Johnson trained RUFUS KING and MASHAM STAR. Both are very solid in this Grade, both have Course form and have proved they can handle it and both are tough battlers and this is a track that suits that type of street fighting horse as they are continually seeking best position. Rufus King may find the Going a bit on the firm side but with watering there should be a decent covering of grass and enough cut to cope and Masham Star would have no Going concerns.

EPSOM 4.30 - The Oaks looks wide open this year and I narrowed it down to 3 and there is also a very interesting bigger priced horse from Ireland that Sean is very interested in. I think Gosden has a strong hand but his 2nd string ANAPURNA is the one of his pair that I fancy the most here, the Lingfield form looks solid, the configuration of that Course is tailor made to replicate Epsom (sharp downhill left hand turn) and looks solid chance.

William Haggas though has 2 I like the most in MAQSAD who has a touch more experience than most and some very solid form, unless something has improved tons I think this one has excellent chance. FRANKELINA is one with a slightly bigger piece to make up on form but she made up a ton of ground after a slow start on seasonal debut and unlike her famous sire, may be a genuine 12 furlong horse in time and I think a bit of a late developer.

Sean is VERY SWEET on TARNAWA from the Dermot Weld stable, and describes her as more of a relentless galloper than a horse with a withering turn of foot, the 12 furlong trip should suit and at 25/1 with just 2 lengths to find on Pink Dogwood (11/4) and indications the trip will suit; looks outstanding each way value with those Bookies paying Odds to 4th place

Whilst I think MAQSAD and ANAPURNA have great chances neither are great value so I will have a small win bet on both and focus more on the longer priced FRANKELINA and TARNAWA.
