Newbury 3.40

Newbury 3.40 3 Dubai Secret @ 11/1 / 4 Wind In My Sails @ 14/1 - both each way (Lad/Coral/Skybet - odds to 4th)

The straight mile at Newbury is a classic test of horse and jockey, you need tactical speed but the
stamina to get every yard of the trip and also a jockey who has the skill to sit and wait, not going too soon or leaving it
too late. I therefore always mark up proven Course form. The 3.40 is a cracking race, many have chances but I think
I have found some real value, and with Ladbrokes, Corals and Skybet offering odds to 4th, lets have a bash. I looked
long and hard at Cricklewood Green;Directorship; Exceeding Power and Kestrel Dot Com but for a variety of reasons
(trainer form, draw; handicap mark) I could not quite be convinced. Golden Wedding almost made it for me but the
trainer form is a worry so I will side with DUBAI SECRET - Course winner and a Distance winner; won off a mark of
83 and runs off 84 here; drawn 5 which will give it cover if it needs it and Trainer just coming in to form, I like the
jockey here too (Sean Leavey) former apprentice to Richard Hannon who ran many of his juveniles here. The other
one for me is WIND IN MY SAILS; should now be cherry ripe in terms of fitness, another Course and Distance winner;
handicap mark is within 2 of CD win mark so perfect chance on that basis and trainer in form, drawn 6 again gets a
nice pitch in the middle of the pack, in Jamie Spencer (Mr Marmite for some) ; perfect jock for this type of race.
It is very competitive but I will be very disappointed if both don't get very close here.
