Placespotter - Doncaster 2.05 1 Phare Isle - each way @ 8/1

The racing today consists of a poor NH Card at Doncaster and two awful AW Cards at

Lingfield and Wolverhampton, but one race caught my eye and one horse in particular

jumped off the proverbial page!

The 2.05 is over 3 miles and just short of 100 yards, with the exception of a bit of
moderate Point 2 Point Form (Next Lot) and an absolute plodder (Blue Cove); I
cannot find any form over the trip with one exception. It is fair to say that the likes
of County Road and Lake Shore Drive are in good hands and have scope to improve;
Grand Enterprise is favourite but a real slog 8 days ago is not ideal preparation for

this run an Good Ground at Doncaster.

PHARE ISLE is dropped in Class to Class 5, always been solid in Class 4
off marks from around 107 to 120, proven stayer, indeed they have often tried to race
prominently and left the horse fading in the final furlong but it has won at the trip and
further. It has not run off a mark this low for 6 years, it is regressing BUT looks to have
been found a golden chance here off 102 with a decent Claimer taking off another 7lbs.
It effectively runs here off 11stones and 10lbs but its last 2 wins saw it carry 11 7 and
11 12, so no concerns it can't win off a top weight. When you look at its form and the form;

or lack of it of the opposition, it is crying out as an each way banker at 8/1.

My main hope is that they run a little more conservatively and get the fractions of pace
right, they don't want a dawdle but if they can hold back a little, use the proven stamina;
I think they can have most of these scattered around South Yorkshire. At 12 it is not an
improver but every horse has a mark it can win off, and this is Phare Isle's best chance
in ages, and unless there is a real handicap blot, very well hidden - has sound chance.
That's it for today, we will be back tomorrow with a look at Lingfield (NH); Southwell
(where Neil has one lined up) and Wolverhampton.
