Placespotter - Wincanton 3.20 3 Sartorial Elegance - each way @ 7/1
The Somerset National is a cracking race and on the form book it is very hard to separate
Morney Wood (who we tipped to win last time, Dawson City and Sartorial Elegance; all
came out of the same race and having watched it repeatedly, the one to take out of it I feel
is SARTORIAL ELEGANCE as the fall it had was not really its fault, it was going well enough
to think it could have won and it just seems to have a fair bit more up-scope than MW or DC.
I do fear Morney more than Dawson for the runner up. The other one I must mentions is
Barton Gift, as you know we have horses with John (Spearing) and on a visit to the yard in late
August he showed us BG; he looked a picture but was huge and John said "wait til after Christmas";
he normally needs 3 runs and I was shocked (and I think the yard a bit) when he won last time out;
he should be in prime form here, is handicapped to a career high mark and I would have had an each
way saver on him at about 12/1 but for the jockey. Nothing against AP Heskin but Andy Thornton
knows BG like no other jock does and BG does like to run his own way and I just have a hunch
he will run on to the Course today and think "where is Andy" and may sulk as a result (AT now retired)
