Sean - Placespotter Tuesday 18th June Royal Ascot Day 1

Here are the tips and brief analysis of our 3 chosen races from SEAN who let's be honest, is in cracking form!

2.30 QUEEN ANNE STAKES -: I see this 16 runner race being dominated by "Class Horses" my only concern is that the 3 most likely are drawn in Stalls 2, 3 and 4. The return of BARNEY ROY from Stud allows us to see a top Class horse, if he is back to his best he could be very tough to beat here. However, this may just be a race too soon for my liking as I think he might just lack a bit of fitness and sharpness still. I see him in the top 4 mind you. Of the bigger prices I think last years winner ACCIDENTAL AGENT could be worth backing at bigger Odds and has a high draw in stall 16 and that spreads the draw options about.

My 2 picks though are HAZAPOUR who has already been very well backed over past 48 hours and is very interesting back at this trip and if anything eased in Grade, likely main rival is LE BRIVIDO from the O'Brien yard who has winning Festival form (Jersey Stakes) and won really looks to be coming to hand at just the right time.

5.00 ASCOT STAKES -: 20 runners over a marathon trip of 2 miles and 4 furlongs and NH horses have dominated this in recent times. I think that scenario is likely again with my selections being COEUR DE LION who will love the trip, is fit and in form and won't be inconvenienced by any Going changes. MENGHLI KHAN is the one i think they all have to beat here as it has good Flat and NH form, that form looks very solid and I'm sure has been laid out for the race. As my slightly longer shot and T/Cast suggestion I like Snow Falcon a lot another with some very solid Flat and NH form in its locker.

5.35 WOLFERTON STAKES is a 16 runner race over 1 mile and 2 furlongs and on the Round course a high draw can be a disadvantage but tactics can negate that if a horse can ping the start and run prominently or otherwise play to come late and wider up the Hill. STAR OF BENGAL from the Gosden Yard could be anything but drawn in stall 15 is not great for a horse still somewhat unexposed and learning its trade but you can't ignore any horse of that type in a race here. I will have a few pounds on that one but my main selections are ADDEYBB who oozes Class in this Grade ad who will have no excuses if not delivering today and RIVEN LIGHT who made a nice seasonal return and who looks to have plenty of improvement and scope to do very well in this type of race all summer.

In the other races it's hard to look past some of the market leaders like Arizona in the 3.05; Battaash in the 3.40 and Too Darn Hot in the 4.20. I'm sure there will be plenty of scope for bigger priced horses later in the week but today I feel is market leaders to lose and we will play accordingly.
