Carlisle 2.45 - a Class 5 race over 6 furlongs on Good to Firm Going and no sign of any real rain. There is a view that a low draw is best here but if you look back a number of Course specialists regularly win from higher draws especially on extremes of Going.
HIGHLY SPRUNG is very much one to beat on form and gets a berth in Stall 1. It looks like a small "win saver" horse to me on that basis at around 5/1 and build that in to your bet if it strikes your fancy. Mr Orange is a Course and Distance winner off a mark that may still be a little too high but one to track at any meeting here if that mark recedes below its current level, I fancy it for Tricast Purposes today. Cale Lane has come in for support, but may bounce after recent reappearance run and stable form is not compelling.
My ideal of the winner and value, although it is being backed is UNCLE CHARLIE - a Course and Course and Distance winner and most recent one was drawn 12 (like today) and Good to Firm (like today) off a mark of 66 (like today), too many ticks there to ignore the horse who has had a seasonal debut run and will strip fitter for it and will be disappointing if it is not placed at least.
