Pontefract 3.00

PONTEFRACT 3.00 4 Penny Pot Lane @ 12/1 - 1/2 point each way

An interesting little race with some 3 year olds who don't seem to my eye to get any "weight for age allowance, at least not much; against a few older more experienced types. The 3 year olds from the powerful Johnston; Fahey and Tim Easterby yards look to have chances on some 2 year old form off these marks but it could be a case of them not training on or still filling out and developing. The Racing Post boldly say PENNY POT LANE needs rain and the heatwave is no good to her. That kind of comment can drive a market and I think she is over-priced at 12/1.

What also pricks my interest in a small bet on an otherwise poor day of racing is the comment of the Trainers son after she won a second race in quick succession last September, off a mark 3 lbs more tan she runs off today when he said "She was badly struck into at Carlisle in May and I thought we might lose her. Although she goes well on soft ground, she does go on good to firm as well"  I always think that if you take the time and effort to read behind the headline you can find little nuggets; hopefully it will pay a small reward today.
