The Silver Wokingham at 12.40 with analysis and tips from ROBIN-:
Let's start at the very top of the market and APLOMB - drawn nicely, ticks every conceivable box, the one they all have to beat so I will have a 1 point win saver as I really fancy some at huge prices here.
Then come the dangers who in terms of price I don't think are great value given a combination of Draw, preference for Good to Firm, or possibly needing a run to attain full fitness. In this category I looked closely at and fear Blue Mist (this trip is baffling but thrown in if it can keep up early); Louie De Palma (nice drawn and scopey main concern is lack of a run); Nahaarr (could be another one very well handicapped but just too short for me); Swindler (the draw in 2 and the form on Good to Firm mitigates obvious Course prowess); Embour (Hannon/Hansen a big plus as is draw probably, my main concern is the handicap mark); Burmese Waltz (drawn 24 and fit but not sure quite up to this). I fear the winner is in there and my biggest fear is EMBOUR but I want to take them on with what I think are a few of exceptional market value, more exposed but with excellent chances off their marks and draws.
Of the remainder before we get to the picks, I think Golden Appollo will be a big chance but just a doubt abou this horse fresh may need the run and one to track after today. Open Wide is another with a big chance but really needs genuine Good to Firm Going i think...
On to the selections-:
I think Cosmic Law drawn 10 will be very competitive for Richard Fahey, has had a run off a nice mark and Going should be ideal and can have no excuses from this pitch right in the middle of the track as it's tactically the best place to be to cover either wing. Hyperfocus (one of 4 for Tim Easterby) has also had a run, drawn 23, would have been a tip on Thursday or Friday as really likes it Soft, but I think at this early stage, their will be enough juice in the ground and drawn 23 if the draw bias remains has NO excuses on that score. A few pounds above optimum win mark of 90, but the run to get sharp should be a big bonus.
So a point win on Aplomb and 1/2 point each way on Cosmic Law and Hyperfocus.
I can't resist either a small e/w stake at HUGE odds on Sir Maximillian who is very solid and consistent and bang on its ideal mark from a plum draw and all the experience needed and also Vintage Brut, whose last bit of 2 year old from was most compelling as a single bit of form and who was very highly tried as a 3 year old and who if recovering from a slight niggle on season debut might easily outrun these odds from a prime pitch!
Back with more tomorrow, primarily at Leopardstown and whatever happens today we hope that you have enjoyed this somewhat unique Royal Ascot and let's hope by this time in 2021 full crowds are back and Covid 19 is something of a fading and distant memory allowing for a huge and proper respect for all those affected especially the families of the tens of thousands who have perished. Here's to the "new norm" whatever that is.
