Haydock 2.25

ROBIN - Haydock 2.25 Handicap Hurdle - Class 2 - 3 miles 1/2 furlong - 17 run (Good to Soft)

Having the faintest confidence in the accuracy of the reported Going at this track is always a leap of faith. I'm reliably informed that it was quite a wet day yesterday so logically Good to Soft or a bit softer is the sensible call.

It may put more of a test on stamina than looked likely at entry time and I'm playing that hunch.

You have to take the stamina and fitness of Proschema on trust at the price, Honest Vic is back to its last win mark but not great market value in my opinion for what its achieved. Party Business won well at Aintree on first try at this trip but was  idling at times and getting cheek pieces and a 9lbs rise. It's one I really fear but I never take Aintree Mildmay Course form that seriously away from Aintree. Wbee has racked up a 5 timer for the excellent Gary Hamer who we've followed all season as a Trainer, now up another chunk to 132 and for that reason I think the run will stop here.

Pileon is solid but something of a Cheltenham specialist and Bronson In Blue a danger on some Irish form but has been clobbered by the UK handicapper.

I was left with a short list of four and two from Pipe and two from Fergal O'Brien yard.

I most like NEON MOON from the Pipe yard, its upped in trip and lots to like about its runs over shorter to suggest it'll benefit and is both well handicapped and good enough to step up. A delve back that found some 3 mile P2P winning form is rally the topping on the top of a quietly confident cake. I actually think it has better credentials here than the notional first choice from the yard PANIC ATTACK who Tom Scu picks who is another in form but I'm less confident about this one at 3 miles than the first selection.

Fergal runs a couple of exposed handicappers in DANDY MAG and HURRICANE HARVEY. I narrowly fancy HH of the pair, it's got its ideal trip, off a nice mark, Paddy B rides and I can't find any reasons why it won't go close at a silly price. DANDY MAG is more speculative on what its shown so far since joining from the Mullins yard but this is easily it's easiest chance since joining Fergal, and a realistic mark based on some of its earlier Irish form. I'd be quietly confident of a bold run.

TIP - Neon Moon / Tracker - Hurricane Harvey / shrapnel - Panic Attack + Dandy Mag
