Huntingdon 1.55

Huntingdon 1.55 - Mares Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 3 Mile 1 furlong - Good - 17 run

A very competitive Mares Handicap Hurdle but not too many prove at the trip so a few unexposed types may lurk as dangers.

Liffeydale Dreamer off top weight nicked a race over 2 mile 6 furlongs at Cartmel off the dront off a mark of 108, well below that mark now and back over hurdles and one who could lead them a merry dance for a long way if trying similar tactics. Veshenskaya is an interesting type who showed promise at Wetherby last time, this trip could suit, not 100% about the sharp track though but one to keep an eye out for in future runs. Ali The Hunter will be a big danger, runner up at Taunton last time but hard to know how good that form was as it was first time the horse had run at the trip, its best form is at this time of year but the softer Going than at Taunton and ability to repeat that form are sufficient niggles to put me off today.

It's hard to look past ASK THE LADY - Fergals horse has twice been 4th here in big fields off marks of 88 and 86, gets a bit more respite and runs off 84 with a 5lbs claim and hard not to see it bang in contention. As to whether you go 2 point win or 1 point each way is totally up to you.

With 17 runners and enhanced place offers we'll also have a 1/2 point each way on FAME AND HOPE who was runner up at Catterick at this trip on soft Going, same mark here of 85 and the capable assistance of Brian Hughes to carry the horse home. MISSTHECUDDLES looks like a horse that can win a small race of this nature, returned to a bit of form last time out, fine on Good to Soft, clearly gets this trip and no excuses off a mark of 96 with a 3lbs claim for the Racing Barrister Graeme McPherson.
