Ludlow 1.00

Ludlow 1.00 - Novice Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 3 miles - (12 run) Good to Soft

A more competitive race than I first thought after delving into the form in detail.

At the top of the market Mr Palmtree has won it's last 2 off marks of 86 and 93 and now gets walloped with a 12lbs hike to 105. As with Crossley Tender yesterday the feeling that you want to take the horse on, as we saw, the risk that th horse runs up to the new mark. I'm happy to take this one on today. Peters Portrait was a Course and Distance winner last time, left in the lead but stayed on to win, up 5lbs and another that I don't think is particularly good value.

Ulsce Ur for Ben Pauling is a 3 mile P2P winner who may need this run, Volcano is a BIG danger, solid in the grade with Dickie (win machine) Johnson up and if you want a win saver this might be the one, but I think there is better value elsewhere.

At bigger prices Shanroe Smooch is a 3 mile P2P winner, some collateral P2P form suggests 79 is a decent mark and may be one to watch and look out for in this lower grade and the same applies to Bignorm, who needs to start completing races but who has shown some promise more than once, those pair could pop up in a place at a price if the race fell apart.

I do like a pair though at each way Odds to cause a small surprise. AULD SOD for Phillips Hobbs is easily the most experienced Chaser in the race, a mark of 86 with a 3lbs Claimer gives is a solid chance, won't ever be much more than this level but handicapped to go close. JIMMI CHEW won Hurdle races off marks of 85 and 90 at this sort of trip on this type of Going and ran well for a long way ob seasonal debut. We have to take ability to jump fences of trust, but if it gets round that hurdles form gives it a very sporting chance.
