ROBIN - Southwell 3.30 - Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 3 miles 1/2 furlong - 12 run - Going Good
A tricky little contest where the favourite Viking Ruby for Mulholland and ridden by Sam Twiston - Davies looks worthy of its price but with a 4lbs penalty is by no means a shoe in. Matchmaking is on a hat-trick and has won off marks of 74 and 79 including over Course and Distance and off a mark of 83 it's certainly opposable.
Roneam somewhat stole a 6 runner CD race here a while back and is up 8 lbs and I doubt the tactics will wash a second time here, Get Phar and Abington Park may both need their runs after a few months off and Knotty Ash and Envoi De La Coeur are both upped significantly in trip. Both would be dangers if getting the 3 miles but I'm happy to take them on.
The biggest danger could be Grannie Annie with Brian Hughes booked for Adrian Keatley and this unexposed type could be anything from a yard that seems full of hidden improvers.
The pair that most caught my eye though are KINGS CREEK for Mark Walford whose recent Course and Distance form reads 3-1-4 off marks of 94-94 and 97, it runs off 96 with the in form Tom Midgley in the saddle and looks solid each way material again. Nothing to hide but one who ticks every box.
At bigger odds I quietly fancy LEMON T, a Course and Distance winner off a mark of 100 and who showed distinct glimmers of returning to form last time, its slipped to a mark of 95and gets blinkers just to sharpen it up. I'll be disappointed if its not in the first 4-5 home here on a Course that holds no terrors.
