Friday 25th January

The Race of the day over the jumps is the 18 runner (max field) Handicap Hurdle at Huntingdon. A 2 1/2 mile trip round this tight turning full on Course and I think a race that may go to a horse with tactical speed and some decent race experience. I picked out 3 I like, one of which is in the Tracker and just overlooked as he is more inexperienced and progressive and this race screams out "scrum down" to me in the way it could pan out.

VOLPONE JELOIS is an interesting runner and the type the Trainer (Chris Gordon) does very well with. He ran with some credit last time, gets out before a penalty kicks in, Going is ideal and although the step up in trip is a bit of unknown territory; indicated when with PFN it may be its optimum trip. The jockey booking is interesting, a much maligned rider but a very sensitive one who won't bully the horse and can present a horse to win well. I think his style might be more suited here than a guy who would be "On the push" too soon.

NOTRE AMI I like primarily based on the form of the Gifford yard and the outstanding pilot on top in this type of race. Drops back to Hurdles and does not look a natrual Chaser so could be under-rated and over-priced and well handicapped. The last 2 Hurdles runs indicate ability in Class 2 and 3 company and a step to C4 here, one to out-run Odds I think.
