Nottingham 2.40

The Advisor - Nottingham 2.40 Handicap - Class 5 - 2 miles - 13 run - Good to Soft (dry most of the day)

A competitive 2 mile Handicap and on a Course where the draw in the Sprint track is often unfathomable, at this distance they have plenty of time to sort themselves out. It does ride long though and it can pay to be fairly prominent and not lay up too far back.

At the top end of the market, Yagood is a Course and Distance winner off a mark of 64 on Good to Firm and when the Going here gets firm it can be genuinely firm Going and my main niggle with this one is the recent rain and fact there will be some cut in the turf, so at the price I'm happy to take it on. Kalamity Kitty has gone 1-1-1- off marks of 47-50-54 over shorter, steps up to 2 miles off a mark of 60 and I'm happy to take it on off that increased mark. GYENYAME for Andrew Balding will probably be the one I fear most it's a bit inconsistent, they try cheek-pieces and it's one that could improve for the trip. It came close to being selected but there are a pair who are more exposed but equally more proven who interested me more.

Oi The Clubb Oi's has run poorly since an absence and may still need the run and to prove ability remains, Kittens Dream may be better on AW than turf, Doublethetrouble should be the real pace angle in the race and I did consider it for a long time as it's the type that may just slip the field. Had it not gone Good to Soft in places I'd have invested in it and I see it as one of the main dangers but it may just help to set the race up for my selections, if you want a canny T/Cast Perm, I'd definitely include this one with the 2 main selections.

First Charge is of minor interest on some AW form and will come on for a recent reappearance and High Wells comes from a yard that can't stop winning races over Jumps who has not yet fired on a return from 500 days off but who may need to come down the handicap a bit too.

My main pair against the field are TRALEE HILLS who made a promising return at Windsor, is a Course and Distance runner up here off a mark of 77 on soft ground, has won off marks of 64, 67 and 74 and looks well enough handicapped off 77 following that recent run to be a confident each way tip.

WYNFORD has a similar profile at nice e/w price for Rebecca Menzies, it was a bit of an eyecatcher over a trip too short at Hamilton last time after some issues in the preliminaries. That run will have taken the fizz out of the horse and it should settle and apply itself far better today. The step up to 2 miles is a positive on form and having won off marks of 60 and 65, todays 68 looks well in range.
