Tuesday 18th FebruaryPublished: 18/02/2025A third place, so placed finish from Atlanticexpress (advised 14/1 returned 15/2 SP) in the first tip race at Carlisle yesterday after Always A Reason was declared a non runner. In the second race the advised Nights In Venice was placed third (advised 11/1 returned 8/1 SP), Indian Louis was runner up (advised 8/1 returned 10/1 SP) and the mentioned main danger and third rated Hello Judge won at 7/1. A shame they finished 3 - 2 -1 in Ratings order and not 1-2-3 but as always the consistency of th... [Read More]

Monday 17th FebruaryPublished: 17/02/2025There is bound to be a sombre atmosphere around all Tracks for the next few weeks as Racing comes to terms with the loss of Michael O'Sullivan and with a couple of non descript National Hunt Fixtures with mainly moderate field sizes and an AW Fixture as Bookie fodder today it hasn;t been easy to find some credible each way value to back with sufficient confidence. However, our in-form Northern expert hopes he has found a couple at Carlisle to keep us ticking ove [Read More]

Sunday 16th FebruaryPublished: 16/02/2025Morning; Sadly there is nothing remotely "Good" about the news that has filtered through in the past 30 minutes as I have been writing up these notes with the tragic news of the death in the early hours this morning of the Irish Jockey Michael O'Sullivan. Whilst the lack of news and occasional updates had suggested an extremely critical situation and all logic suggested he was in a deep induced coma, you always hope beyond hope that something positive may happen. Sadly this is not the ... [Read More]

Saturday 15th FebruaryPublished: 15/02/2025There is some good National Hunt action today at Ascot, Wincanton and Gowran Park and a decent Card at Wincanton and some AW action. We will focus on some very competitive looking Handicaps at Haydock, Ascot and Gowran Park in chronological order. [Read More]

Friday 14th FebruaryPublished: 14/02/2025Good Morning; NO TIPS TODAY!Very contrasting and raw emotions yesterday. An excellent win for Punxsutawney Phil advised at 16/1 and won at 12/1 SP with a fine front running ride. Very sad sight to see the brave Whatupnellie who had finished a close runner up at Clonmel at 9/2 stumble just after the line and suffer a fatal injury. I'm sure she would have gone on to win plenty of races and as a Mare probably supply an ongoing bloodline to connections. The fragility of the horse and fate,... [Read More]

Thursday 13th FebruaryPublished: 13/02/2025Wins yesterday for a couple whose SP reflected non-runners in their respective races probably more than any significant support, so if you were on Gata Ban at the advised 6/1 (SP was 7/2) and West To The Bridge at 12/1 (SP was 17/2) it was a half decent return. The NH Cards at Sandown and Leicester today don't have a single race with double figure runners declared, apart from a 10 runner Novice Hunter Chase at Leicester. Not much better at Newcastle over the Jumps nor Clonmel. We ... [Read More]

Wednesday 12th FebruaryPublished: 12/02/2025We went to Ayr with some speculative punts yesterday and quiet confidence, sadly on this occasion the outcome was poor, but that is the nature of the approach we take to each way value, so we'll dust ourselves down and look for some profit in 3 very tight and competitive handicaps today at Hereford and Wetherby. We're about to relaunch the Members Paddock Area and integrate it to the Proofing Site that we use and whilst this has taken a lot of Ian's time it will produce great long... [Read More]

Tuesday 11th FebruaryPublished: 11/02/2025We didn't have any joy in the sole tip race at Plumpton yesterday but a decent Card at Ayr today, where we had a confidently tipped 20/1 winner at the last meeting there, gives us the opportunity to attack a couple of 13 runner Handicaps, with once again some quiet confidence about a couple at big early odds. Monday 10th FebruaryPublished: 10/02/2025A very welcome win at 33/1 SP for Lightonthewing at Chepstow yesterday, he was strongly fancied by The Advisor and delivered in fine front running style with some splendid analysis. It was a bit frustrating that Catch Him Derry, (the 3rd rated) just beat the tip Hititi at Exeter with both horses returning an SP of 10/1. The only blot was at Navan where Clonmeen was really fancied but he and Whatey's Quest failed to match the performances of the UK tips on the day. National Hunt at Plumpton ... [Read More]

Sunday 9th FebruaryPublished: 09/02/2025A nice 14/1 winner at Newbury with Santos Blue and decent placed runs from Haiti Colours and Navajo Indy and I certainly think that Go Dante is a very well handicapped horse worth tracking on the next couple of runs. There are very decent Cards at Chepstow, Exeter and Navan today, we looked at 5 races closely and have decided on one each at each of the tracks with hopefully some nice each way value with some quiet confidence in a few at big prices in the early markets. Saturday 8th FebruaryPublished: 08/02/2025Only Bredon Hill really ran up to expectations yesterday; finishing 3rd whilst the win of Laskalin was not entirely unexpected as you'll be aware after reading the race analysis, it was annoying to miss it. It's notable that Venetia Williams, always a streaky trainer who blows red hot when hot, had a few winners yesterday and that's something we'll keep a close eye on. We regularly talk about rhythm, specifically "tipping rhythm" and getting into a groove and today is a perfect ex... [Read More]

Friday 7th FebruaryPublished: 07/02/2025We lost the Meeting at Doncaster after a third Inspection yesterday which was frustrating as we had two tips there about which we had quiet confidence, we had a pair placed at Ffos Llas with Dream of Diamonds and Abbeyhill. Sadly, we then saw Thurles abandoned following a horrific sequence of Events in one of the early races on the Card. It saw three horses fall at the last, a further two unseat and left an excellent young Jockey Michael O'Sullivan in a Critical condition in Hospital. ... [Read More]

Wednesday 5th FebruaryPublished: 05/02/2025We have some decent Racing to attack today unlike yesterday and we have selected a race each at Fairyhouse, Sedgefield and Ludlow, all with 12-13 runner fields so some each way value, all have pretty tightly packed top end of the market favourites in a price range up to 6/1, which can distort the market lower down and offer some each way value, and all with horses at bigger prices, which if you look long and hard enough throw up a few very juicy speculative bets. So, let;s go hunting for that va... [Read More]

Tuesday 4th FebruaryPublished: 04/02/2025We had a nice winner with Don Brocco yesterday, advised at 14/1 and available at higher prices for a while some late money saw it come in from 11/1 to 7/1 on Course. An excellent run too from Nights In Venice advised at 16/1 who returned a 22/1 SP finishing in 3rd place. There was less joy in Ireland unfortunately. There is NH at Market Rasen and Taunton today and AW at Newcastle. There aren't too many punting options with very few double figure sized fields but Novice Handi... [Read More]

Monday 3rd FebruaryPublished: 03/02/2025A fair run from Riann who was our 4th best rated in the 17 runner handicap at Leopardstown and the one we left out of the investments as 4th best rated at Musselburgh Magna Sam certainly benefited from the wind operation that we flagged up in the analysis. Fine margins are the name of the game. On another day that pair would have been second or third rated and invested in. We also tread a fine line between having the deep analysis that goes into this level of depth that delights some but fr... [Read More]

Sunday 2nd FebruaryPublished: 02/02/2025A nice 1-2 in the big field handicap in Ireland yesterday for the second successive year, Percival Legallois the 15/2 winner and the admirable and gallant Gaoth Chuill again the runner up at 11/1. With North Parade finishing industry standard 4th place in the 16 runner field at Wetherby and Hazy Glen a widely available enhanced 5th place in the same race, it wasn't a bad day at the Office. We'll look at those races and the outcomes of the tip races today and some general pointers from the D... [Read More]

Saturday 1st FebruaryPublished: 01/02/2025There was a decent run by the consistent Joe Cotton who finished a runner up at Lingfield yesterday, the performances of Major Dundee and The Two Amigos though were very disappointing at the same venue and it was galling to see a TRACKER horse in Sporting Ace win their race on ground that all evidence suggested would be too heavy at the extended trip. A nice win for The Paddy Pie was not unexpected in the tip race at Catterick where the selection failed to deliver. There are decent Car... [Read More]

Friday 31st JanuaryPublished: 31/01/2025I don't think we missed anything winner wise at Wincanton yesterday on a day when the market dominated proceedings. There is Jump action today at Catterick and Lingfield and three AW Fixtures. We'll attack the Surrey National and another Handicap Chase at Lingfield and a Handicap Chase at Catterick with both Meetings run on genuinely Soft Going with a fair bit of heavy deep dead ground probable at Lingfield. Thursday 30th JanuaryPublished: 30/01/2025Good Morning; The Meeting at Wincanton is ON. There are also a couple of very poor AW Fixtures. Having spoken to a very respected Member who lives in the village of Babcary, not very far from Wincanton and who has pretty close contacts with a few local Trainers and the Course , we have decided NOT to tip today from Wincanton. The Track has been underwater for a few days, the standing water has gone, but we are advised the Track will be very patchy with areas of very deep gro... [Read More]

Wednesday 29th JanuaryPublished: 29/01/2025Good Morning; A nice win for Maciver at Limerick yesterday, backed in from 8/1 to 3/1 SP and we also had Winter Carnival advised at 25/1 dead-heating for 3rd at 14/1. Interesting to note the analysis comment on the runner up Mullanour (not a tip but a sign that there is nothing wrong with the analysis of the Tipsters in Ireland, I just feel they need a bit of luck to click). A decent 3rd place too from Twilight Glory to finish 3rd at 10/1 SP at Chepstow. The only disappointment was at ... [Read More]

Tuesday 28th JanuaryPublished: 28/01/2025An enhanced 5th place at 20/1 SP for Doyen Flyer simply mitigated some of the losses on the main tip race at Punchestown yesterday which was disappointing. In the other mentioned race there both Driveonwill and John The Diva ran well enough to place at decent SP's. The South West and particularly Somerset has been very badly affected by both of the Storms that came over the weekend and it seems that the Paul Nicholls yard has suffered very badly reading the front of the Racing Post tod... Monday 27th JanuaryPublished: 27/01/2025No joy with some clearly outlined speculative type pokes yesterday, one of those days when you look at the results after Racing and it seems like every favourite has won or if not something at a very short price. The NH Fixture at Hereford has been abandoned, I suspect more on safety grounds due to forecast high winds and further torrential rain, Plumpton, where field sizes would have prevented any tips anyway, may follow suit in an hour or so with similar high wind and heavy rain concerns.... Sunday 26th JanuaryPublished: 26/01/2025Having started the week with a very confidently analysed 20/1 SP winner with Topkapi Star, I think it's fair to say we haven't had the best of luck since with some decent placed efforts a few of which were unlucky. A decent third place run by Baldur Gate at 10/1 at Fairyhouse was a decent effort and an enhanced 4th from Twyfords Diamond was fair enough at Uttoxeter, both the selections at Cheltenham ran below expectation too. To lose any horse on the Track is devastating for all concerned, ... [Read More]

Saturday 25th JanuaryPublished: 25/01/2025A decent enough run into a 4th place (industry standard with more than 16 runners) for Spitalfield at 28/1 at Doncaster was a decent enough effort yesterday, sadly the Handicap Chase was ruined by the "low sun" with pretty much half the fences omitted. Fingers crossed the same fate does not befall the Great Yorkshire Chase today, a cracking Betting heat. We know TV schedules take priority but the sun, if it appears, is a factor for no more than a 30 minute window, so why they can't schedule... [Read More]

Friday 24th JanuaryPublished: 24/01/2025After a couple of promising runs at Huntingdon from Masked Dance and Shelley Gardens the results at Gowran Park were bitterly disappointing. Our Irish Tipsters who have been excellent and consistently good over the past few seasons haven't become bad Tipsters overnight, but since December their form has largely been very poor and out of character. We're not into knee-jerk reactions and I'm still very confident that as always they will have an excellent March and April, but we will have... [Read More]

Thursday 23rd JanuaryPublished: 23/01/2025We never bemoan bad luck here at SP2A because as long term Members will know very well our philosophy has always been one of "what goes around comes around" and over a period of time it's usually the case that you can "contra off" a lucky winner with an unlucky loser. That being the case over many years, I think we can mark the runs of both My Friend Yeates and Final Edgar at Catterick yesterday as being on the debit side and owing us a bit of lucky credit some time soon. The big Meeting to... [Read More]

Wednesday 22nd JanuaryPublished: 22/01/2025No joy with a couple of speculative punts yesterday on a quiet day and whilst there is some very competitive action over the Jumps at Catterick, the two AW Fixtures are low on numbers and options. We'll attack a Handicap Chase and a very competitive Handicap Hurdle at Catterick. [Read More]

Tuesday 21st JanuaryPublished: 21/01/2025It's always nice to report a big priced winner like Topkapi Star at 20/1, nicer still to begin to show the green shoots of some overall good form after a very frustrating period dictated by the weather and best of all it's great when a big priced winner is tipped with such confidence, and a market drifter to boot. There were decent placed efforts in the other two races also from Minniemum at 14/1 and the well backed Greenways. It's a bit frustrating that there aren't really any decent ... [Read More]

Monday 20th JanuaryPublished: 20/01/2025A nice win for Mortens Leam at 7/1 and a place for So Said I, both at Fakenham yesterday meant we did well at that quirky track. Less successful at Windsor where some speculative suggestions failed on Going that looked a bit better than we thought it would be. I'm not convinced at all having watched the Racing there on Friday and yesterday, that it will be an NH track that is a great betting opportunity. The layout on a pretty narrow and tight piece of ground means that as the commentator very a... [Read More]

Sunday 19th JanuaryPublished: 19/01/2025It was a nice feeling to have some winners yesterday after a very frustrating period after we'd banged in some big priced winners, to have really a couple of weeks with very few betting options and no real successes. Safe Destination was a cracking price at 9/1 and although we got the Staking the wrong way around at Navan a 1-2 from Music Of Tara at 12/1 SP and Blaze The Way at 6/1, hopefully blew all of the Irish cobwebs away and sets us up for one of those turbo-charged runs over there that we...
