Thursday 18th April

A nice return with winners of 3 of the 4 tip races at Cheltenham yesterday and with a pair of non runners in the 4th race, probably as good as we could have hoped for. Doyen Quest who was well backed during the morning got the ball rolling with a narrow win at 4/1 SP, this was followed up by Hymac winning at 11/2 SP again nibbled at in the markets and we closed with an emotional 9/1 winner with Manothepeople, a very aptly named horse on what was to be Paddy Brennan's last ride before a sudden retirement announcement. Ian will do a small appreciation piece on Paddy Brenna, always one of our favourite jockey's and one who won us a lot of races over the years and a terrific horseman. Hector Javilex ran a bold race again but couldn't make it a 4-timer, but once again I hope that we proved our Cheltenham prowess.

Cheltenham and Newmarket stage Fixtures again today, fewer options at Cheltenham where we will take in the Mares Handicap Hurdle Final, and very much a learning day for the connoisseurs at Newmarket , where will have a bash at the closing race a hot 7 furlong Handicap. There are Fixtures too at Clonmel over the Jumps in Ireland with moderate field sizes by Irish standards and at Ripon in the UK
