Cheltenham Review Part 3 - non Handicaps

CHELTENHAM Non Handicaps

We abandoned the formulated Placepot this year and went instead for a Prediction of the 1-2-3 in the non handicaps for those who wanted to do Placepot / Jackpot Perms; or to have small bets or accumulators on the likely winners.

It has to be said that in recent years it hasn't been that hard to find the winner of these races as so many are won at short odds as one or two Yards, specifically Mullins, dominates

Over the 4 days we looked at 18 races therefore and found the winners of 12 of them, mostly at short prices although Protektorat at 17/2 was a decent price. We found 10 others placed from the 1-2-3 lists of which the obvious highlight was Jimmy Du Seuil at 66/1 SP in the opening race on the Wednesday of the meeting.

So overall, a concept that seems to work but one we just need to refine and understand how best to optimise from a purely puntin perspective.

In closing the review, just to touch on the one that really got away "Stellar Story" who was on both the long term Tracker and the Cheltenham Tracker who won the Albert Bartlett at 33/1. I think had that race been a handicap, or had we classed it as a full Analysis race, it would definitely have been a selection and an investment and have transformed the week.  The sole learning is that on a day with 2 Handicaps but a big field "non handicap" like the Albert Bartlett, in future it's a race we'd do full analysis on. Sadly it stands still in the Racing Post Tracker as a missed opportunity!

On SUNDAY we'll look at the figures that come from the analysis review of all of the races over the past 2 days.
