Newbury 5.18

THE ADVISOR - Newbury 5.18 Handicap - Class 3 - 6 furlongs - 18 run - Good

A very competitive race and but for a high draw that doesn't always work out here I'd have been very keen on both Under The Twilight who was very impressive at Salisbury last time and Epsom Faithfull who has bits of form that suggest this is a very nice mark. I hope I've got the draw right but based on the fact that a promising run by First Officer seemed to peter out up that rail yesterday , I just found a few others more convincing.

Windsor Park drops in trip and that's intriguing but may just be to sharpen the horse up, Shobiz comes from an in form team and needs a career best but is not lightly discounted.

I was left with 5 of the 18 who really do stand out, that's at least one too many so very reluctantly I will leave out Amazonian Dream, its had a run and does seem well handicapped and well drawn and over-priced at about 20/1, if you fancy it have a small dabble but there were just 4 in front of it for me. The one that just beat it on analysis fro a small stake is APLOMB for whom yesterday's rain was a boost, and who looks well handicapped and ready to go after a run.

Three though stand out in the 18 runner field and in order of preference they are BERNARDO O'REILLY who is in cracking form and a winner and place for us already this season and no reason why he can't go very close again with the rain a considerable boost too. POPMASTER disappointed a bit when tipped last time but there was a suspicion it may need that run again and it did need 2 runs last year to fire up the engines and on better ground than the runs so far and off this mark it really has no excuses at all and Stall 10 sees it in pole position if the run in the usual arrow formation here. SIR THOMAS GRESHAM has to overcome a draw in Stall 16 and can start slowly, BUT I think that will allow them to tactically move over and get cover down the middle and this horse can come late and strong and gets 3lbs for 4 lengths from BOR on a recent run over Course and Distance where it totally missed the break.

TIPS (1) Bernardo O'Reilly / (2) Popmaster / (3) Sir Thomas Gresham - (4) if you want smaller stakes 9 Aplomb @ 12/1  /
note 11 Amazonian Dream @ 16/1 - enhanced places
