Friday 23rd August
We could not manage to find the winners like we did on Wednesday on Day 2 at York yesterday but left with some nice places and a degree of frustration.
Holloway Boy and James McHenry finished 3rd and 4th in The Clipper but there was obvious frustration that the 1-2 Thunder Run and Mirsky were TRACKER horses. Thunder Run we'd discarded on the basis that 3 year olds didn't have a great record in the race, Mirsky is one of a handful of French imports to the O'Meara yard we've tracked since early season, those horses have massive potential and just a shame we missed the first real proof of that from this one. Nonetheless frustration aside, further evidence that hard work and graft is paying off!. Qaseem ran a blinder to place at a nice each way price in The Nursery justifying Carolyn's confidence and the winner and runner up were not surprising.
RJ had a couple of runners up yesterday and has 3 each way pokes in the 3 big races today that look ideally suited by the fact that 6mm of rain has fallen overnight and has just taken the sting out of the ground with it now Officially Good / Good to Firm in a few places. The Advisor will cover the mile handicap at 5.20, just a pointer from Carolyn in a very competitive Maiden at 4.45 and similarly our Northern Expert has just the one each way suggestion in a very competitive looking opener. We'll not "dive in" today and will watch conditions with a view to being fully prepared for the final big day tomorrow.
We did look long and hard at the Irish Cards but with uncertainty there still with some very heavy rain coming through, we'll sit and wait for some more certainty and not be hostage to lots of non runners.
