Friday 7th February
We lost the Meeting at Doncaster after a third Inspection yesterday which was frustrating as we had two tips there about which we had quiet confidence, we had a pair placed at Ffos Llas with Dream of Diamonds and Abbeyhill. Sadly, we then saw Thurles abandoned following a horrific sequence of Events in one of the early races on the Card. It saw three horses fall at the last, a further two unseat and left an excellent young Jockey Michael O'Sullivan in a Critical condition in Hospital.
We can only pray to whatever greater being or spiritual guide we pray to that the outcome is as positive as it can be. The risk that these guys and girls take to entertain us should never be underestimated and life can change in literally a split second. There is, and I know from awful experiences witnessed in another very dangerous Sport, a split second hush and feeling that time is standing still and that you hope beyond hope that your eyes and senses are deceiving you, when such calamities occur, and as by-standers either in the flesh or on TV or even if reading about it after the event, a sense of hope beyond hope ensues, so we'll collectively hope for better news later today.
The Show as they say though has to go on, and those that partake and take the risks would have it no other way.
Bangor On Dee and Kempton both face Inspections, hopefully both will be on, we have a Meeting e.w NAP at Dundalk as an aside.
