Sunday 17th November
A few places yesterday and I'll review the 3 days at Cheltenham and a couple of days at Navan tomorrow with a look ahead too.
There are some great races today, at Cheltenham and Navan but one of the most eagerly anticipated Irish Autumn Chases has frankly been destroyed once again by the complete domination in terms of Entries by one Yard. We love and passionately support Irish Racing, in so many ways it is better than UK racing and gets far more right than wrong. However when a marquee Handicap Chase has 20 runners and over HALF are from the same Yard you have to ask the KEY question. How can any Punter, however serious their punting, trust the integrity of the race and of the result. Cromwell with 4 runners and De Bromhead with 2 is well within the bounds of acceptability, but to have ELEVEN from the Elliott yard is just not only ridiculous but must be once again the sort of dangerous precedent that has to be stopped. The solution is very simple and that is to limit the number of Entries by a specific Trainer or a specific Owner to say 15% of the field and ONLY to allow exceptions up to say a maximum of 20% if following all Entries the maximum field size has not been reached. (rant over sorry).
We cannot seriously and ethically I feel therefore offer any tips, advice or suggestions on this great race which is a crying shame.
Lets therefore go with 3 I think we can attack and some TRACKERS including a strong one in the Southern National at Fontwell.
