Sunday 1st September

The first day in terms of the meteorological calendar of Autumn and with it we'll start to see a lot less Good to Firm Going and more Good and Good to Soft. There is still a lot to look forwards to in terms of emerging 2 year olds and 2 year old nurseries, a lot of big Flat Handicaps and a steady increase in the number of Jump meetings, although after a dryish August in most parts, I doubt we'll see the bigger NH yards really flexing their muscles for another 6 weeks or so.

After a below par set of Cards yesterday for a Saturday in the UK, it was very disappointing to see very poor and disappointing results at Chester and Beverlety, not for the first time mitigated by a degree of success in Ireland, where the suggested small bet on Independent Expert very nearly delivered a 50/1 winner (beaten 1/4 length in to third) and solid places from Coeur D'Or and if you followed the advice for the enhanced 6th place for the confidently tipped No More Porter at 18/1 (advised at 20/1).

There are 3 Fixtures today, a poor turn out on the Flat at Brighton, some typically competitive Handicaps at Worcester and one very interesting 17 runner Handicap at Tipperary.
