Sunday 4th April

Very mixed fortunes yesterday with Sean unusually way off the mark at Fairyhouse, he switches to a race at Cork today and hopes for better luck and is quietly confident about a pair at nice each way Odds.

The Advisor was genuinely unlucky to see COLONIAL DREAMS just get done on the line by a very brave Sue Smith horse, Colonial Dreams possibly just got there too soon and lost nothing in defeat. A fine run too from CANYON CITY advised at 28/1 who was also just caught on the line for 3rd place at an SP of 20/1. Despite a few non runners the 15 runner field should have insured pretty much everyone got paid for a bold 4th place, hopefully so.

The big news was the retirement of Richard Johnson. A surprise to some he did it so suddenly and not at the end of the season but it's typical of the man really that he wouldn't have wanted to detract from the Champion Jockey Race, which could go to the very last day. So often the runner up to McCoy, who lets be honest, as great as he was, always had the ammunition Johnson didn't have, and proved his status by winning 4 titles in a row after McCoy retired. A great rider, a great man, hopefully he will find a niche in the sport and with his brother in law Mark Grant, also having retired this past week, maybe the pair of them have something planned together.
