Sedgefield 3.10
Sedgefield 3.10 3 Buachaill Alainn @ 8/1 / 13 Mister Don @ 20/1 (PP) + 12 generally
A "National" over 30 furlongs and a number of live contenders, a shame I can't find anyone going Odds to 4th;but shop around you might find someone. The issue here is pace and stamina, there are a few who like to get on with it and a
danger they could either slip the field; or set it up for a closer. I am very keen on Delusionsofgrandeur, and he looks a progressive
long distance Chaser, but he will be in "virgin" territory for the last 1/2 mile and I just have a fear he could have too much early
company up front to get in to a rhythm. One likely to be up there with him is BORIC, proven at the trip, loves good ground and I
think one that will be bang in contention all the way. Grove Silver and Optimistic Bias are dangers who may just need the run; so
my 2 main selections are BUACHAILL ALAINN won this last year off a mark of 126, turns up here off a mark of 128. Like many
in the Bowen stable, their consistency is their inconsistency; looks a plan, not been running great, so suggests a win is near and
the Trainer commented after an easy win last year that "the ground was key" and guess what - gets that same ground today.
I cannot split Boric and MISTER DON on a few pieces of collateral form but am just going to side with MISTER DON as I do
think Boric could be taken on early and leave a bit lacking in the tank up the final hill, if it is a footrace from the last in those
circumstances, I would take MISTER DON to capitalise. It looks tailor made for a Tricast/Trifecta so along with the first 3 named
who I think will be BA / MD / Boric, I will just take Smooth Stepper to plod on and on a bit better than Carrighdoun and will perm
those 4 for the Tricast/Trifecta.
