Ascot 1.45

THE ADVISOR - Ascot 1.45 - Handicap Class 2 - 5 furlongs - 18 run = Soft - Showers

I think middle to high is the place to be when it's soft here as the rain seeps down the camber and can make the ground on the far rail a lot softer and of course it gets churned up by those races on the Round Course. I'll hedge my bets slightly though.

I'm happy to take on the top end of the market in this one, Rohann has top weight and I think better at 6 furlongs, Vintage Clarets is in good form but doesn't represent great e/w value for me in a race of this depth, Kings Lynn gets a high draw but frustrates the life out of me and I'm sure others as one of those horses who always seems to have a valid excuse, great horses overcome excuses and I can't see this one optimising its chances in these conditions. I think Zrzyni is also opposable in the conditions from a nice draw. I'm not convinced either about Dream Composer or Harry Brown after initially considering them for a long time.

A pair drop in to Handicaps having been quite highly campaigned and of them I prefer EQUILATERAL to Raasel. I really don't know how good Equilateral could be, I think though if it's not winning or placing here and going very close they will be very disappointed. Raasel is less compelling off a low draw but should run a better race in this company.

At bigger Odds I really like the chances of CALL ME GINGER and ARECIBO. CALL ME GINGER is a Course and Distance winner out of Stall 14 with some Soft going form, the canniest of the canny Trainers and looks to be reaching peak form, ARECIBO is drawn 7 but is another who seems to be reaching peak form and of those drawn middle to low really caught my eye off a nice mark and proven soft form. If any of those didn't run them WHENTHEDEALINSDONE was clear best 4th rated rain is a plus off a nice mark.
