Galway 6.45

Galway 6.45

A competitive handicap where too many can get drawn in (if you'll excuse the pun) by the perceived low draw bias. It can get very messy scrambling for a pitch from a low draw and many a race can be taken from a high draw by taking a sensible "hold up" tactical approach and waiting for the gaps off the home turn.

I narrowed my final list down to 6 and think that Georgeville for Dermot Weld with Oisin Orr in the saddle can run a decent race from stall 15, On A Session drawn in Stall 4 is an obvious and very strong contender, but I'm yet to be fully convinced that the horse truly gets a mile at a fast pace and I can see it being swamped close to the line by something finishing fast and late. Turbine has plenty of form here and at the Festival and is sure to give backers a run for their money.

My selections though start with the 2019 winner SALTONSTALL who won off a mark of 89 drawn in Stall 14. Gets the 12 berth today and off a mark of 96, with a very handy 5lbs Claimer up. The horse has clearly been prepared for this race, will arrived here as well as its been all season and I think will make a very bold bid to follow up.

MAGNETIC NORTH is drawn in stall 10 and another who looks like it's been primed for the race. was 7th and had nothing but bad luck in this race last year, banged head leaving stalls and then bad luck in running, less than 3 lengths off the winner at the end of the race and 2 lbs lower off a mark of 86 and given a perfect prep for the race this year.

For the Tracker bet I'll have a 1/2 point on another horse a shade unlucky in the same race last year and that's ONLYHUMAN for Jessing Harrington, has got proven stamina, best runs on soft, indeed the horse has regularly under-performed on firmer Going and with a mark of 101 and a 5 lbs Claimer very similar form chance to last year, just needs the lucky dice to fall a bit better in running.
