Navan 2.20
Navan 2.20 Handicap Hurdle - 2 miles 6 furlongs - 20 run - Going Good (basically dry day no rain)
I think most Racing folk will agree that Navan is one of the fairest and truest tests of any horse, a cracking left hand galloping track with a long uphill finish to test the stamina of any horse. When the Going is"Good" like today, really very little room for any hard luck stories.
This is a competitive race and I think there is value to be had.
De Bromhead's GASPARD DU SEUIL is a short price favourite. It comes in to the possible "handicap snip" category at somewhere between 2 and 3/1. It's up to you if you want a win saver, it may well sluice up but I'm looking really for value from the other 19 runners to be frank.
Farrawayboy will surely run a big race at around 5/1, admirably consistent and deserves to win a race but is off a rising mark despite not winning. You could have a crafty reverse forecast on those 2 if you wish to cover off something more speculative but now let's get down to the actual tips.
Broken Ice for Gavin Cromwell is fit from the Flat, won its last Hurdle race, sure to be in the mix but steps up in trip and that's uncharted territory on this uphill finish. Daisys Hollow has changed Yards, has proven stamina on a winning mark off a featherweight and could certainly run an enhanced place. On the other hand Turbojet is top weight, once much better than this but may be coming to a level it can still be competitive at, but it would be a surprise if something didn't beat it here at better odds.Yaiza seems out of form but would be worth an interest when showing any glimmers of re-igniting.
That leaves me with a Tip and a Tracker and one at a big price for some loose change.
ROOM TO ROAM is a serial runner up yet seems to be a genuine type. it has an excellent each way chance, ticks every box and sets the benchmark in terms of consistency
FIVEAFTERMIDNIGHT may be a big price but some of the form it has is compelling. It has proven stamina for this trip and further, has a Course win too at two and a half miles and 2 runs already this season means it should now be spot on race fit. It's last win mark was 101 and it runs off a mark of 103 here with a good 7lbs claimer on board. I'm confident it will outrun those Odds and some.
A couple mre who look better than Odds suggest are BALLYCASTLE GIRL who has won Handicap Hurdles off marks of 92 and 101 and at 3 miles, another who will be arce fit after 2 runs and a mark here of 109 with a 5 lbs Claimer gives it a squeak. One to follow at anything around the 100 mark on future runs. I narrowly gave that the shrapnel bet over Aprils Moon who is another with proven stamina off a falling mark who could be another soon in the range to strike and a handy reserve in the case of any non-runners amongst the selections.
TIP - ROOM TO ROAM / Tracker - Fiveaftermidnight / Shrapnel - Ballycastle Girl
