Thurles 12.40

Thurles 12.40 Handicap Chase - 3 miles 1 furlong - 17 run (Going Good) - 1 reserve

The Going is Good and it's a dry and still day so no excuses ground wise on this undulating track where Course experience and clever jockeyship, not setting sail for home too soon, can be a big asset.

At the head of the market I have no qualms on taking on Ran Rite who is upped 2lbs for a runner up spot over 2 miles 6 furlongs here last time but who has so far not looked as if 3 miles is it's optimum trip. There are a few with proven stamina who will be at home in these conditions who I think are better value. The second favourite currently is Stealthy Tom, a consistent horse for Enda Bolger but not jumping off the page to me as a certain or likely winner at these rather skinny odds.

At big odds I think YAIZA is worth a glance based on some form in the Autumn of 2020, winning over hurdles off marks of 99 and 109 and a Novice Chase too, it's capable of winning at 2 miles and 3 miles, has come down to a mark of 109 and one I think could outrun big odds is you wanted a small nibble.

Presenting Point was a runner up at Clonmel on its last Chase run over 2 and a half miles and is feared but another with a question mark over stamina. Robindaviastar paid an immediate return for the Rothwells when winning on stable debut over hurdles last time, that was over 2 miles 5 furlongs and this is its Chase debut but its a canny yard (as we saw at Cheltenham a while back) and the horse will be a serious danger if getting the trip and taking to fences.

I frankly can't make my mind up about BEATING THE ODDS a Course winner and a winner at the trip, it impressed on Chase debut last time finishing 3rd in a race where we tipped the winner (Glenquin Castle) its won a Hurdle race at the trip here but I can only make it 4th on my list and whilst it is worth an investment I'll flag it up clearly as what it is, my 4th rated and a small stake at your discretion or play in a T/Cast perm. There are 3 I believe will beat it today.

At big Odds I can't resist a shrapnel bet on WALKING THE WALK. This P2P winner makes a belated Chase debut upped to 3miles under Rules for the first time for the Rothwells, and just strikes me as a bit of a dark horse thrown in off a potentially nice mark. If you care to look in depth at the 3 mile Maiden P2P it won you'll realise the next 2 home are promising types who have finished runners up on Rules debut in UK for Ben Pauling and in Ireland for Colm Murphy, so there is some substance to that form and the view that this could be a young Chaser to keep an eye on.

My main pair though are LAUGHING TRIX, a winner on penultimate run and a faller last time who can make quick amends and CLONGUILLE WAY who I've had on my tracker for a few runs and who looks like it's running in to form and fitness with proven stamina and winning form in this type of race off marks of 89 and 99 and now on a very competitive looking mark of 103 now fully tuned up, I confidently expect this one to pick up a race in the near future and no reason why it can't be today.
