Ascot 3.00
Ascot 3.00 - Handicap Chase - Class 1 - 3 miles - 13 run - Good to Soft
At the head of the market is Belami Des Pictons who won impressively off a huge absence at Bangor last time and who may well follow up but it could "bounce" and this would be a tougher race so I am happy to take it on. Caribbean Boy ran OK in the Paddy Power at Cheltenham, that looks a very solid form race but this is a step up in trip and I think anything Henderson sends out here will always be dived on by the market, so I'm happy to take it on too.
There are plenty of dangers and horses in with chances. Cloth Cap is running very well when you consider the inflated handicap mark and looks sure to give it its all once again. Annsam has a lot of untapped potential but this looks a tough ask in terms of actual experience, Phoenix Way too looks one to follow, packed with potential and has had a run and one for your Trackers at 3 miles for sure. Step Back comes in from a year and a week off, likely to run very prominently and come on for the run, not out of the question it couldn't slip the field so is feared on that score and hard to knock the chances of Regal Encore in any race here with an excellent CD record but age can't be ignored and although one to stick in your placepots possibly not up to winning this now.
Storm Control and Valtor are both horses who will surely need this and come on for it and that leaves me with my final 3 against the field.
I will have a small investment on JERRYSBACK despite its recent form lapses. It has a good Course record and plausible reasons for a couple of the poor runs and at the price does represent some good each way value.
I'm keen on GRAND SANCY both on the form angles but also on comments made by PFN that both jockeys who have ridden it recently have suggested it needs 3 miles now, I'm happy to take the word of the current top NH trainer that it may eek out some improvement and I also think that the in-form CHECKITOUT who has finished 3rd and 2nd recently and who has Course and distance form deserves to get its nose in front off a competitive mark of 132.
