Exeter 2.10

ROBIN - Exeter 2.10 - Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 2 miles 5 and 1/2 furlongs - 17 run - Heavy (and significant rain during the morning)

There are a couple at big odds who come off injury breaks who are definitely worth TRACKing forwards from today. Sign Of War off a break of 435 days and Gios Girl off a longer 729 days both showed promise prior to these absences and are worth keeping a close eye on.

At the top end of the market Mr Imposter with form figures of 3-1-1-1 is clearly the one to beat but off a rising mark from 76 up to 92 could be vulnerable in these conditions. Galactic Power has form at 3 miles in Good ground and Course and Distance and Course form on heavy ground, that though was a fair few years ago now and this 13 year old looks plenty short enough in price on recent evidence even off a mark of 74. Barrier Peaks for the pipe yard is being well supported after a better run over shorter last time but having been sent off at 125/1 and 100/1 prior to 20/1 last time, there is nothing in its background (like P2P form) to suggest it will improve massively for a slog in the mud.

Among those with some P2P form both Miter Craftsman and Foillmore were looked at closely but on balance both may still need this run.

I was then left with my shortlist of 3 horses.

BELLAMYS GREY won this race in similar conditions last year off a mark of 84 on its third seasonal run, it had one less run this time but did place second time out last season and looks solid again here off a mark of 82. If fitness just catches it out then both FLUTISTE and SHARP NOTE could be the ones to capitalise at nice odds. FLUTISTE has place form over Course and Distance on Good and Heavy ground off marks of 83 and 84, has had a quiet reappearance after a wind operation and runs off a mark of 76, SHARP NOTE has some 3 mile P2P experience and is upped from 2 miles and is possibly the dark horse of the race pitched in off what may be a nice e/w mark.
