Kempton 3.35
Kempton 3.35 Handicap Hurdle - Class 3 - 2 miles 5 furlongs - Good to Soft 17 run
This is easily the best and most competitive Betting Heat of the day and one in which I think there may be some big priced place value.
The market is headed by horses with "untapped potential" and it could be that any of Monte Cristo, Runswick Bay, Ecco, Rathill and Barbados Blue off a long break, could hose up and be hiding a ridiculously low handicap mark. From big yards, all would be massive dangers, but hard to be over confident about any of them and may be a race to look at something a bit more exposed who may have been laid out for the race in a different way.
Lets Get At It is one who comes off a long break but progressive 2 years ago who will surely need the run and probably a few more, Riggs is up 9lbs for a facile win at Uttoxeter but I'm simply not sure what that form amounts to?, Switch Hitter is from the Nicholls yard, winner of a small race here too last time and again, hard to quantify how good that yardstick actually is, Top Man has been Chasing, falling the last twice but off a nice Hurdle mark on top form, but surely confidence in the hurly burly of a race like this has to be a major concern. Whatsupwithyou sprinted clear at Cheltenham last time, was just caught on the line after the jockey made a bit of a tactical error but may have shown a tactical hand there that others will cover off today.
I was left with a trio of exposed (seemingly) types who just niggled away and away and I think can outrun Odds and scoot up the hill.
By far the classiest of those is Coeur De Lion, a classy flat horse who has some decent hurdle form in better races and if primed by a recent sighter over hurdles could run a massive race with a handy 10lbs Claimer on board suggesting Alan King means business.
DISTINGO comes from that most marmite of marmite Yards and we all know that the horse is just a likely to be pulled up after a mile as it is shoot clear over the last. It is though a horse with tactical 2 miles speed, who ran far better than anticipated over 3 miles last time, suggesting this trip could be ideal. If the race gets a bit tactical with a dawdle for the first mile and they then line up to make it a mile sprint, then this one could emerge from the pack and it has "bandit" written all over it. With so many in with chances, I'm happy to take a chance.
At even bigger Odds is WHOSMYJOCKEY, a Course Specialist whose best runs are all over Course and Distance. Third in this in 2018 when with Phillip Hobbs off a mark of 134, 5th over Course and Distance recently for Richard Hobson on seasonal debut off a mark of 133, will surely come on for that run and with some nice enhanced place money and one who can be ridden with tactical confidence up the hill given its Course form off a mark of 133 with a top 3lbs Claimer up, we can but dream of an excellent end to the day with a decent bit of collateral form suggesting its a cracking each way price if the fancy dan big yards horses with potential come up short.
