Newbury 3.05
Newbury 3.05 Handicap Chase - Class 3 - 2 miles 4 furlongs - 13 run - Good to Soft
A very competitive 13 runner affair with almost all having some form of claim and chance and one that could see some decent form lines emerge as the season proceeds.
Typically a Henderson horse is favourite, his local Track and he rarely ventures far at this stage of the season. MORNING VICAR could be anything frankly, a decent runner up last time after a crashing fall on seasonal debut. A Novice in a handicap. The horse clearly has an engine but a few experienced and solid handicappers in here off nice handicap marks will test him and we'll know how far he can go after today. At the price, I'd be keen to take him on.
Redford Road is from the Twiston-Davies yard that simply hasn't fired like it usually does. It still seems many are being over-bet and although obvious chances another who looks shorter in the market than the bare form suggests. The yard will fire at some point, I'd suggest many in the yard need rain and if we get it wait until Cheltenham and Newbury later in the month.
Mines A Pint is fit, in form but upped in Class and off a career high mark you'd think more than a few of these would be beating it today. The Bay Birch is fit after a pair of runs, below its winning mark by bundles and dropped in to a class 3 here and really should be very competitive. It's solid and definitely came in to consideration and the one with experience I fear the most outside of the selections. Court Master is another fit and in form horse who deserved and got very close scrutiny, has proven Course form over further but the handicap mark is just a niggle for me. If any of those 3 popped up it would be no surprise and more a case of poor interpretation of analysis rather than poor analysis, which I can always take on the chin.
My selections are AZZERTI who won this race last season before stepping up to Class1 and 2 where it ran with merit but without success. Down 4 lbs from that winning mark as a result, back in Class 3 for the first time since, had a run, gets perfect conditions and really I can't see any excuses for it not having an excellent chance here. At bigger odds I just fancied BEFORE MIDNIGHT over Court Master and The Bay Birch to be honest. It will be spot on fit, nice mark, right trip, very solid form and just the type Robbie Power has come over from Ireland to ride on a daily basis.
