Taunton 4.50

ROBIN - Taunton 4.50 Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 3 miles - 15 run - Soft (a dry and drying day)

There are a number of promising types and also horses who look to be running in to form here plus some very well handicapped more exposed types, a few who may have done their winning for the season and a few who are due to win and are off very lenient marks now.

Sindabella has been runner up on the last two runs here with cheek-pieces on over 2 miles and 3 miles but has gone up from 85 to 86 and now 90 despite not winning. Logically it has an excellent chance but at a very short price. Getaway Cory from a yard we've had some success with ran a much better race last time at Wincanton (when in the Tracker) as a runner up of 18 on the 19th February. It steps up in trip here and its only run at 3 miles saw it Pulled up in a P2P race. Visually it should get the trip round here but the price reflects the better run last time and its not a race to have supreme confidence about anything. It rates a big danger.

Earl of Wisdom for the Tizzards also showed some form for the first time really last time, finishing 3rd, beaten 14 lengths in deep mud at Lingfield over this sort of trip. The blinkers remain but on desperate ground there and drying ground here there are enough doubts for me to not invest in it today. My Last Oscar is top weight and won at Lingfield off a mark of 100 last October.  It ran poorly though last time and has had 2 months off and may just need this run to regain full fitness and to prove wellbeing. Doyens D'Anty showed much improved form, and the first signs of any when upped to 2 miles 5 furlongs here last time but whether that was a flash in the pan, remains to be seen.

Those are the horses at the had of the market and probably the winner is in there but there are a few who have stronger claims at more value prices I think.

BALLYBOUGH MARY is from the Twiston-Davies yard with Sam in the saddle. Its won a 3 mile P2P and had the speed to win a 2 miles NHFlat (Bumper) race. It's been lightly raced and will only now be race fit I feel but below a mark of 100 off 99 here I think gets its best chance yet to deliver on some undoubted potential. It will be disappointing if its not placed at least at decent e/w Odds.

Of the remainder the ones of note are Sevenofus who won an Irish Maiden P2P but who has been poor so far under Rules in the UK but Neil Mulholland does give his horses time and this one may be worth following once we see glimmers of that Irish P2P form over here. Comeragh Lad at a big price may just need the run but has shown it gets the trip and should be much better running right handed having given numerous lengths and momentum away running left handed and jumping to the right. It's another that has an engine if they can just find the key to its jumping and may be worth tracking with next season in mind.

My unexposed types again worthy of an interest PUZZLE CACHE has won for us already and is not one to run up a sequence so 3 poor runs after that win are NO surprise and you have to factor that in. It has Course and Distance winning form and least 2 wins have been off a mark of 85 and it runs off a mark of 87 with a 3 lbs Claim and what intrigues me the most is that they turn to a Visor to just freshen the hore up. It's indicative of something and at the price and with the handicap mark on the button still worth a small interest. Similarly AVITHOS who has plugged around all season running well to a point and then fading to midfield finishes is down to a very lenient mark now and also has Course and Distance winning form. It won back to back in early 2021 off marks of 76 and 82 at this trip and further it's now running back off a mark of 76 and even allowing for some regression at its age, you'd think it can find a place off 76 in a race of this type.
